The United Nations, or U.N., is an international organization that the Allied governments founded after World War II. Since then, nearly all of the nations of the world have joined the United Nations. With the goal of maintaining world peace and security, the U.N. promotes international cooperation to solve worldwide economic, social, and cultural problems. Headquarters of the U.N. are in New York City.
